How to Install Windows 7 

      1.  Enter your computer's BIOS and find the boot options menu.
2. Select the CD-ROM drive as the first boot device and save.
3. Shut off your computer.
4. Power on the PC and insert the Windows 7 disc.
5. Start your computer from the disc.
6. Choose your Windows Setup options, then click Install Now and follow the prompts.

Windows 7 is perhaps the best Microsoft operating system to date and is very easy to install compared to windows XP.

Before starting the installation we should make sure that the computer meets all the Hardware requirements for installing Windows 7.

Minimum Hardware requirements:

1.   1 GHz 32 bit processor.

2.    1Gb RAM for good performance

3.   Graphics adapter that supports Direct x 9 graphics. Minimum 512 Mb of Graphics memory.

4.   20 GB free Hard disk space.

Different Editions in Windows 7:

1.   Windows 7 starter

2.   Home basic

3.   Home premium

4.   Professional

5.   Enterprise

6.   Ultimate

The steps to install Windows 7 operating system are as follows:

1.   Start your computer. Press f2 or delete at start up to enter the bios menu. Select First boot device as ‘CD ROM’ if you installing from DVD ROM. Second boot device as ‘Hard Disk’ so that the computer boots from Hard disk if OS is not in DVD ROM. Press f10 to save your settings and select yes to restart your computer.

2.   Insert the installation disc for Windows 7 and start your computer. The computer will ask you to ‘Press any key to boot from CD/DVD’. Press any key on your keyboard and it will start loading the operating system from the CD.  

3.   After loading windows 7 successfully, it opens an install window. Enter the Language time & currency format and keyboard or input method. Click ‘Next’. The ‘Install windows 7’ screen will appear.

4.   Click ‘Install now’. Setup will start and you will see a message on the screen ‘Set up is starting…’

5.   Now it will show the License agreement screen. Check the ‘I accept the License terms’ and click ‘Next’. The ‘Install windows’ wizard will appear.

6.   Select Custom (Advanced) option. The screen will prompt you to select the location to install windows. Click drive option (Advanced menu). Click on ‘New’, you are then asked to allot a size on the disk for installation. Enter the appropriate volume size and then click ‘Apply’ to create partitions for the installation, click ‘Next’. Windows will start the installation. Now the installation status screen appears. You will have to wait for the following tasks to get complete.

1.   Copying Windows

2.   Expanding Windows files

3.   Installing features

4.   Installing updates

5.   Completing Installation

6.   The computer will restart several times during this process so do not worry.

7.   After successful installation of Windows 7 it will ask you to specify the ‘computer name’. It will also ask you enter a ‘User account’ and ‘Password’. Enter the password in the respective field and also the password hint, click ‘Next’.

8.   The setup key will open the ‘Product Key’ option. Enter the correct product key, make sure that ‘Automatically activate windows when I am online’ check box is selected and click ‘next’.

9.   Now a window to set time on your computer will be displayed. Set the correct ‘Time Zone’, date and click ‘Next’ option.

10. The ‘Computer network location’ option will be displayed if your computer is already connected to a network. Select ‘Network type’ and click ‘next’.

11. Windows will now finalize the setup and start to prepare your Windows 7 Desktop.

Upgrading to Windows 7

1.   To upgrade to Windows 7 you need Windows Vista in your computer.

2.   Turn on your computer. Once windows Vista is started open the installation media for windows 7. If you are using a DVD, insert DVD disc in your computer. Setup will start automatically. If it does not start, Click on ‘Start’ – Computer—double click the DVD drive – double click the setup file.

3.   Click ‘Install now’ button. ‘Get important updates for installation’ page appears. Select ‘Go online and select the latest updates for installation (recommended).

4.   The ‘License agreement ‘page appears. Check ‘I accept the License term’ and click ‘next’.

5.   The windows to ‘Install windows’ will appear. Select ‘Upgrade’ option. Now windows will check for the compatibility with the help of windows upgrade advisor and generate report if it finds any compatibility problems. If no compatibility issues are found then Windows 7 starts up gradation process.

All the applications, data, settings and documents existed on the computer running windows vista will be available in windows 7 after the upgrade. We should run windows upgrade advisor before we start up gradation. Most of the applications which run in windows vista will run in windows 7. But some significant applications and hardware may not. This is called as compatibility issues. Windows upgrade advisor will is an application which helps you in determining any applications which may not run properly on windows 7. If any problem is occurred during the up gradation of windows 7 it will automatically restore the previous operating system. If you are experiencing any problem at the time of login then you can roll back you vista operating system manually. You cannot upgrade a 64 bit version of windows 7 operating system to 32 bit version of windows 7 operating system. Also you cannot upgrade from Windows 7 ultimate edition to Windows 7 home premium.

How to install windows 8.1 on your PC

 Step 1: Place your windows 8.1 DVD in the DVD ROM or plug in your Windows 8.1 bootable USB flash drive and restart your PC . We have used a bootable USB flash drive to install windows 8.1 in this guide .

 

Step 2: When your PC reboots , Enter your PC’s Bios settings and set your installation media as the first boot priority . Now save your bios settings and restart your PC . Alternatively press F11 to bring up the boot media selector and select the bootable USB flash drive .

 

Step 3: When your PC restarts you will be prompted to press any key to boot from your installation media . Press any key to continue .

 

Step 4:  You will see the following loading screen with a rotating progress bar . Wait for a few seconds till the necessary files are loaded .

 

Step 5: Next you will see the following screen , where you will have to select the language , time and currency format and keyboard layout . choose your required settings and click on next .

 

Step 6: On the next screen click on install now , after which you need to wait for a few minutes for the setup process to start .

 

Step 7: Now you will be prompted to enter your Windows 8.1 product key , you can either use your windows 8 activation key or the product key that came with windows 8.1 . Enter your product key correctly and click on next .

 

Step 8: Read the license terms thoroughly before you continue to install windows 8.1 on your PC . When its done click on next to proceed with the windows 8.1 installation .

Step 9: On the next screen choose the type of your installation , since we are doing a clean install select the second option , which is custom : install windows only ( Advanced ) .

 

Step 10: Next you will be required to select a drive to install windows 8.1 , you can either format a drive and install windows 8.1 on it ,  or directly install windows 8.1 within the existing space in a drive . If you are going to use windows 8.1 as your primary OS then format your existing windows 7 drive , select it and click next to start installing windows 8.1 on it .

 

Step 11: Now wait for the installation process to complete , this might take more than 10 minutes in most cases . in case you are using a SSD this process will be much faster .

 

Step 12: When the installation process complete , your PC will be reboot automatically and boot into windows 8.1 and you will see various progress bars . after a few minutes your PC will reboot again .

 

Step 13: Now windows 8.1 is almost installed on your PC , the last thing you need to do is personalize a few settings and you will be able to use windows 8.1 . Also you need to sign in into your Microsoft account to be able to take advantage of the windows app store .

 

Step 14: After you are done with all the settings , you will see the ” getting ready screen ” . just a few minutes more and you will see the familiar windows 8.1 start screen and your PC is all ready for the windows 8.1 experience .

What you keep when you upgrade 

If you’re running Windows 7 SP1 or Windows 8.1 Update, in most cases, you’ll be able to keep your Windows settings, personal files, and most apps when you upgrade to Windows 10. During the upgrade, setup will let you know if there’s anything that’ll be removed—but it’s always a good idea to back up your files before you start upgrading.

This table shows what you can keep when you upgrade from your current version of Windows. Keep in mind that no matter which operating system you’re upgrading from, you should play it safe and back up everything.

Important notes

·         The upgradeability of a device has factors beyond the system specification. This includes driver and firmware support, application compatibility, and feature support, regardless of whether or not the device meets the minimum system specification for Windows 10.

·         If your PC or tablet is currently running Windows 7 SP1 or Windows 8.1 Update, you can check to see if it meets the requirements by using ‘Check my PC’ in the Get Windows 10 app.

·         Applications, files and settings will migrate as part of the upgrade, however some applications or settings may not migrate.

·         For Anti-virus and Anti-malware applications, during upgrade Windows will check to see if your Anti-virus or Anti-malware subscription is current. Windows will uninstall your application while preserving your settings. After upgrade is complete, Windows will install the latest version available with the settings that were set prior to upgrade. If your subscription is not current, upgrade will enable Windows defender.

·         Some applications that came from your OEM may be removed prior to upgrade.

·         For certain third party applications, the “Get Windows 10” app will scan for application compatibility. If there is a known issue that will prevent the upgrade, you will be notified of the list of applications with known issues. You can choose to accept and the applications will be removed from the system prior to upgrade. Please be sure to copy the list before you accept the removal of the application.

 


Feature deprecation

·         If you have Windows 7 Home Premium, Windows 7 Professional, Windows 7 Ultimate, Windows 8 Pro with Media Center, or Windows 8.1 Pro with Media Center and you install Windows 10, Windows Media Center will be removed.

·         Watching DVDs requires separate playback software

·         Windows 7 desktop gadgets will be removed as part of installing Windows 10.

·         Windows 10 Home users will have updates from Windows Update automatically available. Windows 10 Pro and Windows 10 Enterprise users will have the ability to defer updates.

·         Solitaire, Minesweeper, and Hearts Games that come pre-installed on Windows 7 will be removed as part of installing the Windows 10 upgrade. Microsoft has released our version of Solitaire and Minesweeper called the “Microsoft Solitaire Collection” and “Microsoft Minesweeper.”

·         If you have a USB floppy drive, you will need to download the latest driver from Windows Update or from the manufacturer's website.

·         If you have Windows Live Essentials installed on your system, the OneDrive application is removed and replaced with the inbox version of OneDrive.

 


Additional requirements to use certain features

·         Cortana is only currently available on Windows 10 for the United States, United Kingdom, China, France, Italy, Germany, and Spain.

·         Speech recognition will vary by device microphone. For better speech experience you will need a:

·         High fidelity microphone array

·         Hardware driver with Microphone array geometry exposed

 

·         Windows Hello requires specialized illuminated infrared camera for facial recognition or iris detection or a finger print reader which supports the Window Biometric Framework.

·         Continuum is available on all Windows 10 editions by manually turning “tablet mode” on and off through the Action Center. Tablets and 2-in-1’s with GPIO indicators or those that have a laptop and slate indicator will be able to be configured to enter “tablet mode” automatically.

·         Music and Video stream through the Xbox Music or Xbox video app available in certain regions. For the most up to date list of regions, please go to Xbox on Windows website.

·         Two factor authentication requires the use of a PIN, Biometric (finger print reader or illuminated infrared camera), or a phone with Wi-Fi or Bluetooth capabilities.

·         The number of applications that can be snapped will depend upon the minimum resolution for the application.

·         To use touch, you need a tablet or a monitor that supports multi-touch.

·         Microsoft account required for some features.

·         Internet access (ISP) fees might apply.

·         Secure boot requires firmware that supports UEFI v2.3.1 Errata B and has the Microsoft Windows Certification Authority in the UEFI signature database.

·         Some IT administrators may enable Secure Logon (Ctrl + Alt + Del) before bringing you to the log in screen. On tablets without a keyboard, a tablet with the Windows button maybe required as the key combination on a tablet is Windows button + Power button.

·         Some games and programs might require a graphics card compatible with DirectX 10 or higher for optimal performance.

·         BitLocker To Go requires a USB flash drive (Windows 10 Pro only).

·         BitLocker requires either Trusted Platform Module (TPM) 1.2, TPM 2.0 or a USB flash drive (Windows 10 Pro and Windows 10 Enterprise only).
